Well, so have we! This is one reason we’re helping to bring awareness to chemicals in our skin care, foods, and cosmetic products that are simply too dangerous. Don’t you find it ironic that the same companies who have pink ribbons for cancer on their cosmetic products to raise awareness and donations also have the same cancer causing agents in their products? It would make sense that the place they should start, if they really care, is to take the cancer causing products out of their products!
A good beginning in helping yourself is look for products that are Paraben FREE. What are parabens you ask? Well, a simple Wikipedia search will tell you:
Parabens are a class of chemicals widely used as preservatives by cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Parabens are effective preservatives in many types of formulas. These compounds, and their salts, are used primarily for their bactericidal and fungicidal properties. They can be found in shampoos, commercial moisturizers, shaving gels, personal lubricants, topical/parenteral pharmaceuticals, spray tanning solution, makeup, and toothpaste. They are also used as food additives.
So, it’s fair to assume that many of the health problems we have in the US can be traced back to what we’re putting on our bodies and in our bodies. It is weird how as cosmetic companies started growing bigger and bigger and product lines were expanding and oversight of their products decreased, cancer rates went up. Now I can go on and on about connections between bad food and bad products creating bad health, but the entertaining video below does a better job.
Back to those Parabens. Where do you find Paraben Free products? They’re starting to become more common. As a matter of fact, I was at the grocery store yesterday looking around and I found a few products on the very bottom shelf (not an obvious spot) that were Paraben Free. You may also look at our Seacret Skin Care line, which is Paraben Free as well. But all in all, being aware of what we’re putting in our bodies and on our bodies is a great step in taking care of ourselves – and decrease our chances of cancer.
For reassurance, we only use healthy products for our skin here at A Touch of Zen. Our lovely owner, Christina, strives hard to ensure that all our certified massage therapists here in Indianapolis are educated on the importance of what products we put on our bodies and what products, oils and lotions we put on our clients.
To put all of this into perspective, watch this short 8 minute video which goes into more depth about the ingredients in our everyday products and what we can do about it. Have a wonderful day!
